Man charged with domestic violence and child abuse after alleged assault on the ground
CHEBOYGAN COUNTY, MI – A man is charged with domestic violence and child abuse after he allegedly assaulted a person with autism at a campsite.
Michael Allen Griffith, 41, of Alanson, and the victim are said to have argued at the campsite. The victim sustained significant injuries.
Michigan State Police Gaylord Post soldiers were dispatched around 10:40 p.m. over a report of a physical altercation at the campground. The victim and suspect had previously been taken to McLaren Northern Michigan Hospital for medical treatment related to the incident.
The police investigation led to Griffith’s arrest. He is charged with one count of child abuse in the first degree and one count of domestic violence, the third offense after an incident on August 1 at a campsite on M-68 in the township of Ellis.
Griffith was arraigned on August 21 in Cheboygan County 89th District Court. His bond was set at a cash bond of $ 5,000. His next court appearance is scheduled for Thursday, August 27.
