Couple accused of assaulting Spirit Airlines gate agents
ROMULUS, MI – Two people accused of attacking two agents at the gates of Spirit Airlines have been charged with several torts related to the incident.
According to a Press release Wayne County District Attorney Kym Worthy.
On Jan. 17, the couple were attempting to board a Spirit flight from Detroit to Atlanta when an argument broke out between them and the boarding agent over charges for their carry-on baggage, the statement said. Murphy and Williams allegedly attacked the officer, punching him in the face and attempting to open the boarding gate. When another officer intervened, he was allegedly punched in the head by Williams and Murphy; he was taken to a local hospital for treatment and then released. Murphy and Williams were arrested at the scene.
Murphy and Williams were arraigned Tuesday, Jan.19, in the 34th Wayne County District Court in Romulus before Judge Brian Oakley, the statement said. They got a personal bond of $ 1,000. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for March 17.
The couple were also banned from Spirit Airlines flights.
“It’s hard to imagine we are living in a civilized society these days,” Worthy said in a statement. “This case represents what we have lost today: collegiality, waiting for your turn, respect for the rules, kindness towards your fellow citizen and above all kindness and patience. Everything you learned in kindergarten.
